Not your high school Spanish class

So, you wanna learn Spanish?  Me, too.  I got back from my mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a while ago, and already I can feel myself losing the Spanish I learned.  Plus, I'm taking a Spanish class and I've started realizing how little I knew in the first place.

And then a few weeks ago my dear friend asked me if I would teach her Spanish.  Sadly, at the moment she lives about an hour away and it would be difficult to communicate in person very often about learning a language.  After all, when I see her I want to talk about, you know, life.  Not how to be bilingual.

Brilliant idea: create a weekly blog where I review/teach one Spanish concept.  Weekly because I don't think I'll have more time.  Blog because my friend could easily access it and do a little study while we're not together.  I get practice, she gets practice, and maybe I'll get a few people to read a blog I wrote!

I'll be teaching about the same way I learned.  That means this is not your high school Spanish class.  First, I'll go over all the verb tenses and at the end of each lesson I'll show you how to use that tense in every day conversation.  But I'm not going to tell you how to say ridiculous phrases just so you can introduce yourself to a stranger and then not know what to say when they go off like a bullet train.  If we do this right, you should be able to construct your own sentences, not just rely on memorizing the ones I give you.

So, let's get all that high school Spanish stuff out of the way with a little video, and then next time we'll dig right in to present tense.

Your assignment for this week is to figure out everything he's saying in this video.  If you get stuck (as I would have before I went on my mission), use this website to translate:

Phrase Translator

It's usually pretty accurate.  I'll post the answers next week.  (PS, when I say next week, that can be anywhere between next Monday and next Sunday, so don't go thinking there's a certain day we're shooting for here)
